The “Eastbound Nexus: RCEP Tech Forum 2023,” hosted by the Global Innovation Technology Platform (GITP), concluded successfully today at WORQ Bangsar South. This event stands as a significant milestone, fostering collaboration between ASEAN and Chinese technology markets, bringing together industry leaders and experts to share insights and strategies, providing a roadmap for navigating the dynamic landscape of the Chinese market.

The event gathered industry leaders and experts, including Raffles Chan, CEO of GITP, Yong Kai Ping, CEO of SIDEC, Prof. Dr. Ong Kian Ming, director – philosophy, politics and economics (PPE) programme for Taylor’s University and former deputy minister of MITI, Dr. Melissa Foo, head of Sunway iLabs Ventures, Tauqif Iskandar, CEO of Penjana Kapital, Hisham Bari, head of MYStartup Malaysia, Ng Sai Kit, chairman at Malaysia Venture Capital Association, and Saiful Azlan Ismail, director of strategic change management office MYDigital Corporation.

The event not only provided a platform for knowledge exchange but also marked a significant stride in bridging the ASEAN and Chinese technology markets. Industry leaders shared rich insights and actionable strategies, offering a roadmap for navigating the intricate landscape of the Chinese market.

The forum also served as a platform for noteworthy announcements:

The upcoming Entrepreneurship World Cup 2024 – Malaysia Chapter was introduced, setting the stage for national and regional entrepreneurial growth;
The HICOOL Global Entrepreneurship Competition 2024, aiming to foster a spirit of innovation and surface top entrepreneurial talent on a global scale, was unveiled;
A partnership between GITP and Marwari Catalyst from India was announced, introducing an acceleration program in the first quarter of 2024 designed to open new avenues for tech innovation and business expansion; and
A strategic collaboration has been established between GITP and CGCC to facilitate office setup within GITP’s dedicated working spaces in both Malaysia and China.

Participants left the forum armed with a deep understanding of the Chinese market’s potential, empowering them with the insights necessary for strategic growth and expansion. GITP’s network played a pivotal role, facilitating connections that promise to accelerate technology exchange and business progress.

Raffles Chan, CEO of GITP, expressed gratitude, stating, “The success of the ‘Eastbound Nexus: RCEP Tech Forum 2023’ underscores the importance of collaborative efforts in driving innovation and growth in the tech sector. The first month of 2024 going to end with another remarkable event, marking another significant achievement for GITP in Thailand 🇹🇭 . We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the Digital Economy Promotion Agency (DEPA) for their exceptional role in hosting the event and for their efforts in promoting the GITP & HICOOL Global Entrepreneurship Competition 2024. Big credit to Olivia for joining the event virtually and introduced the tech ecosystem in Beijing and the benefits of joining the HICOOL Competition. Additionally, we are thankful to the National Innovation Agency (NIA), the Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), and Technology Innovations – Based Enterprise Development Fund. (TED FUND) for their participation as panelists. Their insights into Thailand’s ecosystem and the support offered by local government to Thai technology companies and startups looking to expand internationally were invaluable. GITP is also immensely grateful for the unwavering support from our portfolio companies, which is evident wherever we go. Special thanks to Mimi & Job for backing GITP and for sharing their experiences and journey in conducting business in China. The commitment of local government agencies in diligently nurturing the local tech ecosystem is commendable, and our discussions were incredibly enlightening. Reflecting on yesterday’s event, I want to extend a big thank you to Dr. Lee from UMCIE for supporting GITP in the China Market Gateway Entrepreneurial and Innovation Opportunities Workshop, held at The Cube, UM Innovation Incubation Complex, University Malaya. A special thanks to Prof. Aznul, the Deputy Director of UMCIE, for the opening session. I’m also grateful to Shirley and William for their valuable contributions as panelists, sharing their experiences about entering the China market. Thanks to Zentrix from Singapore for expertly moderating our panel discussion.

I appreciate Dr. Irene’s effort in bringing her undergraduate students to participate in the program. The event featured an engaging discussion about the HiCOOL Global Entrepreneurship Competition 2024, with a lively FAQ session that showed the enthusiasm of our Malaysian friends for this opportunity.

Furthermore, our country partner Swethal came all the way from Dubai offered an enlightening presentation on the Entrepreneurship World Cup 2024 – Malaysia Chapter.
